September 18, 2026

On September 17, 2026, shortly after 7:30 a.m., Battalion 4 was traveling on Paoli Pike and noticed a car in a ditch near Sugartown Road. Additional emergency resources were requested to the scene. Upon investigation, Battalion 4 found an unresponsive person in what appeared to be a motor vehicle accident.

Station 4 and MICU 4-1 were dispatched to assist. When Willistown and Malvern Police departments arrived, it was determined that the individual was in cardiac arrest, with no pulse or breathing. Battalion 4 and officers from both police departments began CPR and provided rescue breathing for the patient. An automated external defibrillator (AED) was used, indicating the need for defibrillation. Two consecutive shocks, with CPR performed in between, were administered by police and Battalion 4. The patient regained a pulse and spontaneous circulation.

MICU 4-1, the Malvern Medical Command Physician, and Squad 5 from East Whiteland Fire and Rescue Services arrived to continue resuscitative efforts. The patient was transported to a local hospital and transferred to emergency room staff with a restored heartbeat. The collaborative response from all first responders contributed to this positive outcome.

Responding Units, MICU4-1, MD4 (Physician), B4, Squad 5(EWFRS), Willistown Police Department, Malvern Police Depart.
