Never Forget........

September 11, 2001 stands as a day our nation will always remember. The events of that day changed America forever.

For most, the attacks unfolded through television broadcasts, radio, and news reports. For the emergency services community, September 11 revealed the true meaning of duty, courage, sacrifice, and service above self.

Firefighters, EMTs, paramedics, dispatchers, police officers, and emergency managers pause to remember the 2,977 innocent lives lost in the attacks. We also honor the hundreds of emergency responders who advanced toward danger while others sought safety.

They had no certainty about how the day would end. They did not know if they would return home. These responders simply answered the call.

Images from that day—including firefighters ascending the Twin Towers with heavy gear, paramedics treating victims amid chaos, dispatchers calmly managing overwhelming call volumes, and police officers guiding civilians to safety—remain clear in our memories. Their actions exemplified the highest ideals of public service and continue to inspire emergency responders across the nation.

For today’s uniformed personnel, September 11 represents more than a page in history. It is a constant reminder of the responsibility we carry with every alarm, medical response, and act of service to our communities.

Many of today’s firefighters and EMS professionals were children in 2001, and some were not yet born. The legacy of 9/11 still shapes the profession, emphasizing the importance of training, teamwork, and selfless commitment to others.

We also remember the families whose lives were forever changed. Spouses lost partners. Children lost parents. Friends lost loved ones. Their sacrifice endured beyond September 11, and we continue to keep them in our thoughts.

As we honor the fallen, we recommit ourselves to the principles they demonstrated: selfless service, courage under pressure, dedication to community, compassion for those in need, and unwavering support for fellow responders.

Throughout firehouses, EMS stations, dispatch centers, and police departments nationwide, today is a day of unity in remembrance.

We remember the lives lost.
We honor the heroes who answered the call.
We support the families who bear the burden of loss.
We pledge to carry forward the legacy of service shown on that tragic day.

We will not forget September 11, 2001.
We will continue to honor all who made the ultimate sacrifice.
