On Wednesday, May 6, 2020, Malvern Fire Company and the Po-Mar-Lin Fire Company Large Animal Rescue Team were dispatched for a horse that had fallen into a pool in Willistown Township. The horse, Saphia, has wandered out of her barn and into the back yard where she fell through the pool cover. Her owners found her in this predicament and called 911. Upon arrival of Chief 4 he requested Goshen Fire Company to assist with their Rescue and manpower.

Saphia was trapped in the pool cover and was struggling and becoming fatigued. The home owner had contacted their vet who also responded to the scene. Crews from all three stations worked together to devise a rescue plan based on the location. Saphia was sedated to keep her calm during the rescue. Personnel from the LART secured the horse with straps and positioned a sled under her for removal. Malvern and Goshen personnel set up a rigging system to pull the sled and horse out of the pool. Once everything was in place all crews worked together to extricate Saphia from the pool. Once out she was able to get to her feet and start to walk around. Saphia appears to be doing well and we are all hopeful she makes a full recovery.
