Fatal House Fire in Malvern Borough

At 4:01 AM on Monday July 4th, 2016 the Malvern Fire Company along with assistance from the East Whiteland Volunteer Fire Association, Paoli Fire Company and Berwyn Fire Company were alerted for a reported house fire in the 300 Block of East King Street, in Malvern Borough.

Fire crews arrived within five minutes of dispatch to find smoke coming from a second floor apartment with information being provided that a subject was still inside the apartment. Crews began searching the apartment and immediately found a victim still inside. The victim was removed from the apartment and on-scene crews immediately began medical treatment.

Upon removal of the victim the fire was quickly extinguished and the fire was contained to the one apartment unit. The victim was
transported to Paoli Memorial Hospital and was later transferred to Crozier Burn Center. The patient succumbed to their injuries a short time later.

There were no additional injuries reported to any occupant or emergency personnel. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Chester County Fire Marshal’s Office. For additional information please contact Fire Chief Chris Gastwirth or Deputy Chief Neil Vaughn at 610-647-0693.
