Members of the Malvern Fire Company spent the evening with members of Station 3 at the Paoli Fire Company doing joint rescue training. Paoli invited us to train with them on airbags used for lifting and rescue tools used in vehicle extrications.

Crews performed lifts utilizing airbags to lift a ladder that contained two cups of water. The objective was to communicate and lift both ends of the ladder in unison so as not to spill any water. Crews also payed Jenga with wood cribbing and hydraulic spreaders.

The ability to use these tools with precision and confidence is critical when performing a rescue. While we aren't worried aout toppling Jenga or spilling water during a rescue, we are very concerned with minimizing movement and vibration and reducing risk by only moving anything just as far as we absolutely have to.

Thanks to the Paoli Fire Company for inviting us!
