Garage Fire on Dutton Mill Road

At 01:18 hours the Malvern Fire Company along with assistance from Station 54 (Goshen), Engine 3-5 (Paoli), Engine 5-5 (East Whiteland) and Delco Engine 41 (Newtown Square) were alerted to the 400 block of Dutton Mill Road in Willistown Township for reports of a garage on fire.

Chief 4 (N. Vaughn) responded and was advised that the fire alarm had activated and upon the homeowner checking the garage found the garage to be filled with smoke. Information was also given that the garage was detached and not connected to the home.

Chief 4 arrived on the scene and reported smoke showing from the garage and established Dutton Mill Road Command. Engine 4-5 (Lt. Fitzgerald) arrived with Tower 54 and laid a 5" supply line up the driveway. Tower 54 crews performed truck company functions while Engine 4-5s crew placed a single 1 3/4" line in service to quickly extinguish the fire.

Engine 3-5 supplied Engine 4-5 with additional water while Berwyn crews handled RIT responsibilities. Additional crews from 4, 5, 54 & D41 provided manpower and assistance in checking for extension in the attic, providing lighting and other fireground tasks. The fire was quickly placed under control and the assignment scaled back.

The Chester County Fire Marshals office investigated this fire. There were no reported civilian or fire fighter injuries.

Final Malvern units cleared the scene around 03:00 hrs afte the Fire Marshal investigation was complete.
