Residential Water Rescue on Davis Road

At 03:13 Hours Chief 4 (Wilkins) was alerted to a residence in the 100 block of Davis Road in Willistown Township for a resident who was advising their house was filling with water and needed help evacuating. Chief 4 requested the company to be dispatched at 03:23 hrs as he responded to the scene to attain more information.

Upon Arrival he observed a massivly overflowed creek that had created a river some 100 feet wide surrounding the house. He set up Davis Road Command and requested a boat to the scene as rescuers from Malvern would assistance to safely make access to the house due to the depth and speed of the water. Boat 53(Fame, West Chester) was alerted as they were already on the air handling numerous rescues in and around the West Chester area. Squad 53, Boat 53-1 and Assistant 53 all made the response and arrived on Davis Road at 03:59 hrs.

Crews from Squad 4 and Tac 4 set up lighting and stoodby as crews from Squad 53 deployed the boat and made access to the home in a matter of minutes. They suplied the two residents with life jackets and assisted them back up to the road in the boat. At 04:10 Davis Road Command advised that both residents had been extricated to hard ground. Ambulance 4-2 evaluated the patients who both refused transport and Davis Road Command was terminated, making all Station 4 and 53 Units available from Davis Road at 04:21 hrs.
